Detroit is ASB.

Hello Everyone!! My name is Raechel Matyas, I am currently a Senior at The University of Michigan-Dearborn and I am really loud. I will most likely be your personal chauffeur during the week (I hope you don't mind a talker)... >:-D I am the Diversity Programming Student Coordinator in the Student Activities Office and I worked as the Volunteer Coordinator last year (which changed my life, but we can save that story for now).

I am extrememly excited for an ASB in Detroit. Detroit is amazing. Detroit doesn't get the respect it deserves, though in the past couple of decades it has been in need of some major therapy. Dertoit is sad, but when you are walking the streets you can feel the positive energy. It's energy that gives you goosebumps. I am excited for you all to learn more about our city, Detroit. It is a city that really wants to return to viability.
There are so many passionate people working on it, and I am so grateful to each of you for assisting as well.
Last night I watched "Ace of Cakes" on Food Network, normally I love Duff's goofy antics and power tools, but yesterday the manager of the store made a snide comment basically about Detroit being ugly. It is things like this or statistics which are not completely correct which are broadcast into millions of homes that gives Detroit the reputation it has. Yes we have gone through some tough times, and Yes the city is segregated. BUT we are working on it. This generation is less racist and classist and I hope in my heart that one day Detroit can be the city it was, with YOUR help!

I think Ace of Cakes should make a delicious and tasty cake with a M block (For UofM-Dearborn) with United Way Alternative Spring Break written on it...then they can present it to us sometime in the week, and we can eat together, from the same plate, and be at peace :)

I love Mary Alice for reaching out to us, and listening to Raechel, it means a lot!
